Pit Bull School
About Pit Bull School
THE TRAINER:   Pit Bull School classes,
workshops and seminars are taught by Mary
Harwelik, CPDT (Certified Professional Dog
Trainer). Mary has been training dogs since
approx. 1985 (yes, she started when just a child!).
Mary has spent her entire adult life studying the
science of behavior, learning, and the proper
application of training methods.  She is currently
the trainer and behavior counselor for RPB.

Mary stays away from Traditional-Style Training
methods which employ the use of choke chains,
prong collars, alpha rolls, scruff shakes and other
physical, heavy-handed techniques. These old
fashioned training methods, which are sadly still
popular, use false 'psychology' to describe dog
behavior based on debunked research done on
wolves many years ago.  Mary uses positive
reinforcement-based training, and current science
is her guiding force in dog training.  Her method of
choice is
Clicker Training.

Mary is the founder and director of The Real Pit
Bull, Inc., a NJ nonprofit corporation dedicated to
breed advocacy.

WHAT IS PIT BULL SCHOOL?   Pit Bull School
is a program offered through The Real Pit Bull, Inc.
It offers free and low cost educational and training
services to Union County-area Pit Bull guardians
and  shelter and rescue workers.
